Trump calls for $1.6 trillion in spending to rebuild the country

Trump called for $750 billion in spending for infrastructure projects in a speech Wednesday, calling for a $1 trillion infrastructure program.

The speech marked his first public appearance since he was elected president in November.

He said the money is needed to repair roads, bridges, tunnels and other infrastructure projects.

“America’s infrastructure has been neglected for too long,” Trump said.

Trump has repeatedly criticized Congress for not funding the infrastructure program in his first year in office.

During a campaign rally in Iowa in January, Trump said the government “does not have the funds to rebuild our roads, our bridges, our water systems, our sewers, our airports, our roads.”
